Renewable Energy for Overcoming the Dilemma of Darkness in Nigerian Urban Centers

Cities are unique centers of energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Although electricity provides multiple functions for urban residents, its supply in Nigerian is poor, the attempts to understand this problem have been limited national level. Therefore, study aims explore dimensions problem; assess adaptations by households inadequate supply; examine use renewable energy-related facilities; perception renewables households, with five residential neighborhoods Minna, capital Niger state, were covered. Data collected using a questionnaire Facility Observatory Technique document daily households. The data covered connection, supply, public willingness shift sources. Results indicate that Minna an average 5 hours daily, while only 25% at night (7.00pm 10.00pm.). An index derived demonstrate nature indicates city has darkness 0.81, indicating situation extreme inadequacy supply. 95% correlation proportion without night. also shows 72% fossil fuel-driven plants 84% not familiar resources generating electricity. paper holds switch energy, incremental development, high costs incurred non-sustainable alternative sources provide foundation more concerted effort develop as means improving availability centers.
